The Courage Way: Wisdom for living, working and leading with integrity

Courage is what happens when you bring inspiration and integrity to your decisions to take actions. Courage is the life force that animates you in moments of decision and action. In your moments of courage, you meet your true self.Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
— Shelley Francis, The Courage Way

Do you wish you had more courage ?

What would you do with more courage ?

What would that look like in your life, work and leadership?

Inspired by The Courage Way by Shelly Francis, and the Courage & Renewal® approach to reflective practice developed by Parker J. Palmer and the Center for Courage & Renewal, this online Circle of Trust® retreat is an invitation to explore five key elements that support courageous living and leading:

True Self -   that source of inner wisdom, also known as our inner teacher.

Trust -  that creates the conditions for self and others to flourish.

Community - that deepens self knowledge as we engage with trustworthy peers.

Paradox - that opens us up to new possibilities.

Reflection - that helps us find our own inner ground as well common ground with others.

Unfolding over 2.5 days and led by skilled facilitators, we will co-create a trustworthy community grounded in the Circle of Trust® Touchstones.  Prompted by evocative texts, images, poetry, music, and insights from the natural world, there will be time for individual reflection and journalling along with small and large-group dialogues, in which experiences from our own lives, work and leadership can be shared.  Through such processes, this retreat will offer the rare opporunity to pause, slow down and:

  • Attune to our inner wisdom.

  • Renew our commitment to core values that bring meaning and integrity to our lives and work.

  • Expand our capacity to be present to others through practices of deep listening and asking open and honest questions.

  • Discover a process for discernment to gain clarity around life, work and leadership questions through Clearness Committees.

  • Continue to cultivate our courage.

Your facilitators:

Kirsty McGeoch (PhD, MEd, LLB, B.Com, Grad Cert. Professional Supervision) has a few different hats: engaging with schools to embed the 4Cs - creativity, communication, collaboration, critical reflection - in their teaching and leadership practices through her role with 4C Transformative Learning; facilitating courses for women leaders in education with Women in Leadership Australia; teaching on pre-service and postgraduate education degree courses at the University of Sydney; and offering Professional Supervision to school leaders. A common thread is her deep interest in reflective practice, which led her to becoming a Courage & Renewal facilitator in the 2015. In this role, she derives great joy in offering people the trustworthy and welcoming space to tune into their own wisdom for living and leading wtih integrity. She also finds great fulfilment in supporting the development of new facilitators as a mentor with the Center for Courage & Renewal. In her free time she enjoys reading, family camping trips, boardgame nights, playing in a band, singing in an acapella group, and walking the family hound, Ralphie. An avid life-long learner, she is currently studying a certificate course in Bowen Family Systems Theory.

Siat Yeow Kok (Phd, MSc) is Deputy Campus Director, NIEC (National Institute of Early Childhood Development) in Singapore. Her diverse background includes more than 30 years of curriculum development, training and mentoring to support early childhood educators’ professional and personal growth. She is also a Certified Professional Co-active Coach, International Coaching Federation Associate Certified Coach, and Certified Practitioner in Team Coaching. Since 2019, Siat Yeow has been participating in Courage and Renewal retreats and is currently an apprentice in the Center for Courage and Renewal’s Facilitator Preparation Program. She believes that to live with integrity and authenticity, there must be congruence between our inner and outer lives and she is deeply committed to nourishing our inner lives, from which our outer lives grow. Her favourite quote is:

"We must learn to measure our efforts not by short-term effectiveness but by long-term faithfulness to the vision we care about." - Parker J. Palmer
